Design Development. In this phase, the design is further refined through more detailed floor plans, elevations and cross sections. Decisions are made regarding interior and exterior materials and finishes, foundation and structural systems, moisture protection, insulation, heating and cooling systems, lighting, windows and doors, and cabinetry. During the design development phase, preliminary cost estimates can be gathered, although actual costs cannot be determined until construction documents are completed and submitted for formal bids. |
