Schematic Design.
Once the decision has been made regarding what to build, rough sketches
or schematic designs present this decision visually so ideas can
be further explored and refined. A design direction begins to emerge
through initial floor plans and elevations that identify approximate
building size, orientation, wall locations, window and door placement,
roof slopes, and major equipment and furnishing layout.
During the schematic design phase, we think and evaluate ideas in
three dimensions using a variety of tools including architectural
drawings, cardboard models, sophisticated computer modeling, and
multimedia presentations. This visual planning makes it easy to evaluate
needs and make any changes necessary before construction begins (when
changes are much more costly).
